In short
Sabz has no account and no analytics. It doesn't track you, and it doesn't build a profile of you. Almost everything the app knows lives on your iPhone and nowhere else. Two things do leave it, both involving photos sent for analysis and then discarded: identifying a plant's species, and running a Check-up. Both are described below.
What stays on your device
Your plants, their photos, your care history — watering, feeding, repotting, notes — and every diagnosis a Check-up has produced are stored on your iPhone.
We have no copy of them. There is no Sabz account to log into, no server holding your plants, and no way for us to see what you've recorded. If your device is backed up through iCloud, that backup is governed by Apple's terms, not ours.
What leaves your device
Two features need an AI model to read a photo, and that can't happen on your device. In both cases the request goes to Sabz's analysis service, which passes it to Anthropic's API. Once the answer comes back, everything sent is discarded — neither Sabz's service nor Anthropic keeps it, and it isn't used to train models. Only the result is saved, on your device.
Identifying a species
When you add a photo to a plant, Sabz sends that photo for analysis to suggest what species it is. This happens automatically as part of adding the photo — it isn't a separate choice each time. If you'd rather it didn't, don't add a photo to the plant.
Running a Check-up
A Check-up sends three things: the photo you choose to include, a summary of that plant's care history, and any note you've written in your own words. That note is free text — it can be more personal than a photo, so write it knowing it will be read by the analysis service and then discarded along with the rest.
Apart from these two, nothing in the app sends anything anywhere.
The installation identifier
A random identifier is generated when you install Sabz and travels with each Check-up request. Its only purpose is to rate-limit how many Check-ups a single installation can run, so the service stays available and affordable.
It isn't linked to your name, your email, your device or any other app. It tells us nothing about you. Delete the app and it's gone.
Your name
You can optionally give Sabz a first name so it can greet you. It's stored on your device, used only for that greeting, and never sent anywhere. Leave it blank and the app works exactly the same.
Your control
Because we hold nothing, there is nothing for us to export or delete on your behalf. You can delete any plant, photo or diagnosis inside the app, and deleting Sabz removes all of it from your device.
Sabz isn't directed at children under 13 and doesn't knowingly collect anything from them.
Changes and contact
If this policy changes in a way that affects what leaves your device, the app will say so before the change takes effect. The date at the top always reflects the current version.
